weekly film- We need to talk about Kevin

We need to talk about Kevin is a psychological thriller film directed by Lynne Ramsay. The film took 5 years to make, production started in 2005 and commenced in 2010. In 2005 BBC films acquired the rights to adapt the book to a film. There was a long delay in production due to BBC Films having difficulty funding the high budget; Ramsay rewrote the script so the film could be made for a lower cost. However, The UK Film Council awarded £18,510 to the production from its development fund in the same month. In addition financial backing was also provided by Footprint Investments LLP, Caemhan Partnership LLP and Lipsync Productions, and production is in association with Artina Films and Forward Films.  In this film the mise en scene has been very closely looked at, the main charter Kevin is shot in colours throughout the film that link to key advents later on , for example within the set of Kevin’s room there is red a yellow, also the a lot of the time he is wearing red or yell...

Under the skin key scene analysis.

Under the skin key scene analysis . In the beach scene in Under the Skin a sub story takes place to emphasise human emotion. The scene shows a family on a beach running after one another to try save them from the power of nature. This sub story helps emphasise how emotionless the protagonist is. This shot is framed so the mum character of the family is very far away from the rest suggesting she is not salvable, it also foreshadows her in the sea as she is much further out from the rest. Before this unfolds the alien is observing her text target coming out of the sea, this long shot takes place for a very long time to make the audience feel uncomfortable. Speech between the two characters then occurs a mid-shot is used for this. At point the speech from the alien character sounds as if she is reading it of a checklist, this is mainly done for practical reasons in the narrative, as she needs to target lonely guys so no one notices they are gone. There are no long shots in t...

Under The Skin character profile. The protagonist in Under The Skin changes throughout the film , she is represented as two polar opposites, powerful and vulnerable. The change in her persona is shown in the visual codes only as the film has little focus on showing actions through the audio codes. In the start of the film the protagonist is presented as powerful women, she is shown as confident as she lures her next victim inn with her looks. When doing this she is shown very clearly that she is in control. When speech is used she is the one dominant in the conversation. Furthermore, the fact she is driving could signify that she is in control. She is also represented as a predator, yet again this is mainly done in the visual codes, she is seen to be going around Scotland confidently looking for someone to be her next victim, it is made very clear that this is motive. However, towards the middle of the film and onwards her persona completely switc...

The open house analysis -weekly film

The open house analysis. The open house is an american horror film directed by Matt Angel and Suzanne Coote, The film was released on Netflix on January 19, 2018. In the first scene loud sound effects are used to show the action rather then it being on camera, this leaves the audience in mystery. It also allows the audience to think how bad this car crash was, the screen then cuts to a still shot of a couple walking into the house all in black. This confirms to the audience that the character of the dad has died, prior to this the still shot could signify how this character's life has been put to a stand still and the family are mourning. A close up is then used of a photograph, this seems like its done to give insight to the family life before the father died, we find they was a family who was very close just down to this one shot. A tracking shot is used to show location as the family move out of there home, the shot looks like it's from one of the characters in the ...

Sightseers character profile Chris At the beginning of the film Chris is represented as a sweet person, he is portrayed as a kind person, he help Tina pack. However we are quick to learn that he is a psychopath, he repeatedly killed people with little emotion to his actions but at the same time he shows his emotions towards his girlfriend Tina. He is character that shows no remorse what so ever he as he murders people “with structure”, this adds on to his psychopathic personality as its almost an excuse. Chris is a dominating character as he almost manipulates Tina’s mind into thinking it is right for example “reducing the amount of people reduces the carbon footprint” although at the end this personality shifts as he thinks Tina killing a bird to be was “witch” thing to do it shows he has some remorse. Tina Tina is represented as a naïve and childish women, she is manipulated very easily by Chris, and she is shown to have feelings and emotions at the beginning as she ...
