Get Off My Land and Ralph

Get Off My Land is a short film by Douglas Ray the genre of the short film is a dark comedy as it contains a serious advent of death of “trespassers” ,however towards the end there is a comedic sense to it , for example the actor who plays the land owner says “got a feeling that is a public footpath actually, even though the tragic event had already occured”. This tells us the death of the couple did not need to happen at all. Get off my land was set in the deep English countryside , the film takes place on a field belong to the land owner with various public footpaths through the land. The themes shown in this short film are love,death and violence due to the couple walking along the field , the death of the couple and than the fact they were killed with a weapon shows the violence. In my opinion the films storyline was pointless and wasn't funny at all because he killed the couple than realised his mistake, which i thought wasnt interesting at all.
On the other hand ‘Ralph’ falls into the genre of romance as it shows him going to France to declare his love for a friend called claire.The film was written and directed by Alex Winckler and is set in Marseille ,France.Ralph follows the themes of love, isolation and realisation  ,for example the character Ralph is in France alone and he can't speak French so he is trapped ,we also feel isolated as  the film does not contain subtitles ,therefore just like Ralph we don't understand either. Due to this we have to get whats going on by their actions rather than their words.Additionally we recognise the theme of realisation because Ralph finally comes to terms with the fact that Claire doesnt love him after he thinks about how she refers to him as her little brother. I liked the film as it made me happy for ralph when he walked away from claire and I think the storyline was really good and the way it was produced made us feel like we was isolated with him.
The two short films were similar because they both shared the theme of love as both films showed a aspect of relationships eg Ralph and Claire and the couple walking in the countryside. However both films explored different types of complications in a relationship ,we know this because the character Claire doesn't  seem to feel the same way for Ralph who does not realise this till later on. Whereas the couple in the countryside seemed to of had an argument as the female character walked ahead and the male character sighed dramatically as if he didn't want to be there .Moreover both films explored the theme of isolation ,in Get Off My Land the couple were isolated on the field with the landowner and his gun,Ralph explored this aspect by showing him isolated from people because he was in France alone and couldn't speak french.

Additionally in Ralph the storyline is told from his perspective as the camera continuously follows him at a mid shot perspective, this makes the audience take his side on the drama awaiting because we are only seeing one side of the story.The mid shot perspective makes it seem realistic as it seems like you are there too and adds to the point of  how we also feel isolated. Although Get Off My Land uses a more of a open perspective for example we see the drama unfolding from the couple's view but we also the the individual views of the couple for instances we see that the male character doesn't want to be there and vice versa.Even though both short films show the storyline from a different perspectives they both use a panning shot in order to show the scene, this gives information to the audience as to where they are.

Close ups usually follow up from this to show the characters reaction. He also tends to shoot face on so he is centre of attention. Keaton does this to highlight the idea that he is the joke and considered a clown; this tends to follow through on most films.
